Suffering from Trichotillomania? You Are Not Alone & it’s Not Your Fault...We CAN Help You Have Healthy Beautiful Hair Again

Trichotillomania is an impulse control disorder in which people have an irresistible urge to pull out their hair for pleasure, satisfaction, or the relief of tension. This repeated behaviour results in noticeable hair loss.  It can be from the scalp, eyelashes, eyebrows or other areas of their body.

Common feelings are of shame, embarrassment, depression or anxiety, with hats, wigs or extensions often worn to disguise bald patches.

Our clients with trichotillomania have told us that the bulk of their research for hair extensions was done online as making inquiries was extremely nerve racking.  Often, it has been years since they had stepped into a salon for even a trim let alone a hair extension consultation.

If you have trichotillomania and are interested in extensions, the first step is to read our website; we hope you find it very informative.  Secondly, call the salon and speak to one our Hair Extension Specialists, you can ask any questions and explain your personal situation, do not feel ashamed, we are here for you. All Salon Shique extensionists are experienced and discreet; we are an intimate salon for our clients comfort.  Finally, book in your private Unique Shique Consultation, costing $10, it takes approximately 20 minutes and your $10 is donated to Ngurah and his family living in need in Bali.

For those in Victoria, ARCVic (Anxiety Recovery Centre Victoria) has a new Self Help Support Group for people living with Trichotillomania running the first Sunday morning of each month.  ARCVic is a statewide, specialist community organisation that provides a variety of services including a Helpline, Recovery Programs and Support Groups to people and families living with Anxiety Disorders and related stress and depression.  The groups aim to provide a safe space where participants can communicate their feelings & experiences, give and receive support & understanding, establish new social networks, share information and increase hope & motivation.  They are ongoing and open groups run by trained facilitators.

All those with Trichotillomania, family members and carers are welcome.

"The hair extensions have made everything easier for me - from caring for my hair to the way I feel every day.  My friends have noticed how much thicker my hair has become, and now I'm able to wear it out all the time.  I am pulling less and less everyday, and the extensions give me a new found confidence.  This new confidence is due to Zak and his superb team who have enabled me to leave a new life."  Maddy

“Any problems are with pulling my own hair, not usually the extensions because there is no release from the scalp.  I have now had Shique extensions for 11 months and my hair is always worn out or in a low pony tail.  The most satisfying thing is having a low backed top on and feeling my hair against my back.  My own hair has grown faster and much longer than expected, my own hair is as long as the extensions now, and in problem areas I have regrowth with length that can be straightened.  The Trich is still with me but it doesn’t run every part of my life.  I can see there will be a time when I never need to do it.” Anon
