Smaller, more romantic headwear is the must have of this racing season to complement the trend towards softer, flowing dress styles.
Think Hatinator rather than large brims or extreme fascinators.

|
Dress for the day time, if you are going to show a little cleavage, avoid flashing your legs; pick one, not both, remember this is the races, not the Playboy Mansion.

|
Avoid extreme Public Displays of Affection....we are there to see the horses....not a floor show!
|
|
|
Do not shampoo your hair on the day of the event, it will difficult to style and will not hold your look.
Ideally, wash 48 hours prior, a little grease and grime will give you more body, thickness and manageability.

|
If you are wearing live flowers in your hair, give them a light spray with hair spray to stop from wilting.
|
|
|
Use bobby pins to secure your hat/hatinator or fascinator. Always carry a few spares.
|
|
Pop an ‘Emergency kit’ into your bag, a few band aids, panadol, bobby pins, a safety pin and a small packet of tissues (these can double as napkins or toilet paper if required later in the day).

|
Don’t forget to eat!

|
Try to make every other drink, a glass of water, definitely if the sun is shining! It is a long day and you want to be able to enjoy all of it!

|
|
If you are going to have a spray on tan (don’t try to skimp here- get a professional to do it or risk looking like an Oompa Loompa) arrange your tan 24 hours prior, make sure you exfoliate well before and moisturize on the day for a natural looking tan.

|
|
Buy a pair of Tipsy Toes’s, they are a light weight, flexible sole shoe that will fold up in your bag and when the time comes, get you home with your dignity. Make sure your bag is large enough to hide your heals after the switch. This year they will be available at Flemington during the carnival.

|
Wear waterproof make up, this is Melbourne so it could be to avoid the rain or heat…
|
|
Wear sunscreen and reapply, you don’t want to end up with ‘racing stripes’ or with 'white glasses' like Kim Kardashian (right) at the beginning of the carnival!
|
|
|
Finish your look with Polish, your hair will smell fantastic, shine and won't have that 'over hairsprayed' look.
